What we have done this year – Our Annual Report 2021/22
Thanks to our team across Healthwatch Kirklees and Healthwatch Calderdale, we’re proud to share with you our latest Annual Report, reflecting on amazing projects and impact we have had in these areas. With the support of our fantastic team of staff and volunteers, we’ve advanced our core goals and found time to pilot new ideas, all while sharing our learning and working in partnership.
Introduced by our Treasurer and Directors, this year’s report highlights how the teams have been able to adapt through Covid-19 and were able to reach out and continue to support local people.
We heard from 2,187 people about their experiences of health and social care
We provided advice and information to 816 people
The report details projects that our team has worked on in the last year including:
The Kirkwood Hospice
For this project, two surveys were designed, one for current service users and the other for the general public and professionals to get a full picture of how services were running and what people thought about proposed new services. All of the recommendations suggested by Healthwatch Kirklees were taken on board and followed up by The Kirkwood where necessary.
““The support my dad got in the hospice was amazing. I would hope that
any new services add to and complement this support and not replace. It’s
hard to envisage what this would look like.”
How delays to planned care during the Covid-19 pandemic affected people in Kirklees and Calderdale
The pressure on services in the health and care sector during the Covid-19 pandemic led to unprecedented delays to planned and routine care and treatment. Plans to address the 5.8 million patients currently on a waiting list for planned procedures are once again hanging in the
balance as pressure on emergency services continues.
