GP Practice Changes

NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is responsible for planning and buying healthcare services for the local population.  

In July they wrote to all households with people registered at the Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) GP practices, asking what they thought about some changes they wanted to make.

The CCG have  looked at what people told them and thought about what they can do.  Now they want to consult you on their plan to change these services.

The Clinical Commissioning Group in Calderdale cannot renew the APMS contracts again and they have not found anyone else to deliver GP services through a regular contract, however the CCG will try again to find a solution in Todmorden.

The CCG want to make sure patients have a long term solution for their GP services.  The APMS contracts are not good value for money. They cost up to double the amount of regular GP contracts and not enough patients have registered with them.

APMS contracts are short term and so the practices have found it difficult to employ permanent GPs.  They have had to rely on temporary GPs, which you’ve said you don’t like and cost more money.

APMS contracts will come to an end in March 2020 and the following practices will close:

• Meadow Dale Group Practice (Delivered by Virgin Care LLP ) in Ovenden, Elland and Sowerby Bridge.
• Park & Calder Community Practice (Delivered by Locala CIC ) in central Halifax and Todmorden.   

This means patients registered at the practices above will be affected by the plans. The CCG will make sure that you can continue to access GP services by registering you with another practice.
