Specialist cancer surgical services

July 19, 2016

University College London (UCL) and the University of Manchester (UM) are conducting a study into the centralisation of specialist cancer surgery services across North Central/North East London/West Essex and Greater Manchester.

Specialist cancer surgical services in London are undergoing significant changes, and similar changes are planned for Greater Manchester. Some aspects of specialist cancer surgery have been combined into single, larger specialist units in London, and similar changes are planned in Manchester. This involves surgery services only − other aspects of care will remain closer to each patient’s home in those areas.

The proposed centralisations are likely to represent a significant change in how cancer patients requiring specialist surgery experience care, with many having to travel further to receive surgery or specialised investigations, but being given a greater choice of treatments, and with potentially better outcomes.

To examine the acceptability of such changes, UCL, in partnership with Quality Health, are keen to know the views of members of the general public.

If you would like to take part in the study, please click here to complete the survey www.dcg16a.quality-health.co.uk and give us your opinion. The questionnaire should take around 25 minutes to complete.
