Wheelchair Services Calderdale

August 8, 2016
First complained in 2012 about my daughter's needs . Not had new wheelchair or assessed for 7 years. Thought it was a one off. Rang in Jan 2014 for another assessment. Made a new wheelchair which was a hazard we refused it . Now 2 years since the start of the debacle and we are still no further forward.

No longer a personal service provider

Waiting extremely long times for appointments then being put on to other clinic lists. Even as a emergency we have waited 8 months to be seen. Consistency is so important & there is none of this. So many negative comments to make about the service which should definitely not be the case.

Not As bad as the reviews make out

I was with the Old Wheelchair service and that was a Joke took them 12 Months just to see you, now from start to getting a Electric chair its six months which is half the waiting time for NHS chairs, for Adults we have suffered in the past as all the Money was used for children now its done on a equal terms. I no children do need a lot and there chairs are very specialized and that need the manufactures involved and that can add to the timescale. my chair took three months just to come from Invacare that was nothing to do with Opcare.
They have had a lot of stick but have done considering the mess they inherited from the NHS a grate Job they have a user group that meets every three months.
If this was under the Trust then the complaints on here would be in there thousands
Work with Opcare and not against them if a Manufacture is holding things up that is not opcare's fault
They had staff that were from the NHS that have now been replaced and do a amazing job

Delays, more delays; persist to get help

July 29, 2016
My son now 30 has complex needs , needs seating robust enough to cope with his strength, seizures, and deteriorating posture. Over 12 months to get a seating re assessment in Dec 2015 and then 4 months to get his specialist seat fitted, still awaiting specialist foot box due in August 2016! Oh and they mislaid one of his wheelchairs and scrapped a brand new seat shell we had purchased. Now hopefully getting resolved due to being incredibly persistent in contacting Manager at Opcare/Ability Matters. Great praise for dedication of therapists.

Waitng time

Too long everyime my child's needs have changed by the time it arrives. All staff work part time so no continuity or care.

Appalling

July 28, 2016
My son has been waiting over a year now for a very long overdue chair. We were forced to just have it tweaked to make it last longer and 3 month ago we finally got a new assessment done but have been warned it could be as long as after Christmas before we even get to see a rep let alone then get the chair ordered and delivered. My son is almost 12 so is in the stage of life where his body will be doing lots of growing. His body is not in the correct position which then puts him at severe risk of needing un warranted surgery if he just got the chair he needed when needed. They are basically playing Russian roulette with my sons body and it is a absolute disgrace.

Absolutely shocking

The waiting time a disgrace, then when you get an appointment you're put on another waiting list. The staff never do what they say and give away chairs to others that were marked down waiting for certain people. Even small parts they are incapable of sorting

Specialist Seating

July 28, 2016
My daughter has been waiting for her footplates for nearly 3 years. We realise that this has a huge impact on her physical well being as she has a poor posture without the correct seating. She is also waiting for a wheelchair assessment and this has been about a year. When we contact the service we are told that she is still on the waiting list but they are unable to tell us how much longer she has to wait. We have been told by others that there is a long waiting list after the assessment to have the correct wheelchair/seating and that this can take another year. We have had a good experience previously of the service department which, until recently, had always been very responsive and was an excellent service. This seems to have changed recently as there is now an area specific day. So if you are unlucky enough not to be on the list you have to wait until the engineer is in the area.
