Adult Autism Services in Calderdale and Kirklees

March 15, 2017

A small number of adults with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) have contacted us at Healthwatch Calderdale and Healthwatch Kirklees to discuss some difficulties that they are having in getting an initial diagnosis, and in accessing appropriate clinical support following a diagnosis.

Because of this we would like to have a better understanding of the issues that people with ASC face in Calderdale and Kirklees, so that we can raise them with the appropriate organisations and hopefully improve people’s experiences.

To do this we have designed two surveys, one for people with ASC to complete so that they can tell us about their experiences, and another one for the parents, partners and carers of adults with ASC to use to give us their views and ideas.

We also want to collect some real life stories to show how having an Autism Spectrum Condition can affect people’s lives. We have designed a simple Case Study Template that people with ASC can use to give us their story, and also to put across how the condition affects them as individuals.

Once we have collected all the feedback from the Surveys and Case Studies we will write a report to share with the people who commission and deliver the services for people with ASC in Calderdale and Kirklees.

We will be circulating the surveys to a wide range of peer and support groups for people with ASC as well as carers groups, and will also be visiting groups to tell them about this project and to help people complete the surveys and case studies.

The engagement will run for six weeks. It will commence on Wednesday 15th March 2017 and run until Tuesday 25th April 2017.
